Kaloer Clock 3.0 released
During the latest moths we have been busy working on improvements in our night clock application for Android Kaloer Clock. Yesterday we released Kaloer Clock 3.0 on the Android Market, which contains multiple improvements and new features.
First of all, Kaloer Clock is now available for Android Honeycomb tablets. By making use of the large screen, Kaloer Clock can be used as a beautiful desk clock. The alarm screen has also been optimised and it shows the album cover of the current alarm track.

Another significant new feature is the "Powerpack". The Powerpack unlocks a bunch of different features. Currently, those are:
- Day and night specific settings
- Sleep timer
- Alarm widget
- Automatically start Kaloer Clock on a specific time
Some of the features probably need an explanation. The day and night settings feature allows you to set a different set of preferences for night time and for day time. For instance, you may not want to dim the screen at day, but you do want a dark screen at night. Almost every setting can be separated in day and night time.
The alarm widget is a simple widget for your home screen which shows one of your alarms. The alarm can easily be disabled and enabled from the widget.
More features will be added to the Powerpack in the future, but we will not forget to update the non-Powerpack
features either.
We have to make an income to keep ourselves engaged developing this app. The Powerpack is available in Kaloer Clock for $2.
Another very demanded feature is the possibility to disable alarms temporarily. By temporarily disabling an alarm, its next occurrence will not go off, but after that it will continue its normal repeat.
If I should explain every new feature or improvement this post would simply be way to long. However, I do want to mention a new skin for the nerdy users. In this update we have added a binary clock which shows the current time the binary way.

Some of the other noteworthy features includes:
- Custom weather location
- Light sensor dismiss/snooze
We really hope you will enjoy Kaloer Clock 3.0, which is available for free on the Android Market

Thanks for the updates! You've made a very good app great! The day/night modes make a big difference - now I don't have to adjust the brightness twice a day. Also, the weather is a nice aesthetic touch (even though I have an office with windows). The only other suggestion I could think of would be the addition of a "Giant Font" skin for those of us who take our glasses off to sleep. Otherwise . . . love the app!
Your application is the best thing on My Samsung Galaxy S - seriously. Now with the sleep timer included, and the removal of the android alarm notification which was annoying when the android alarm was not being used, this app is worth every penny/cent. Also, the alarm time now being displayed is also great.
Just thought of a product suggestion - when the sleep timer is on playing music, possibly a bar that indicates how much time is left till it goes to sleep - same colour as the chosen clock?
Thanks for such a great app! Keep the cool ideas coming!
I don't like the update, and therefore removed it. The skin I was using has silently been removed. That doesn't make sense.
Hi Rutger,
I'm sorry you don't like the update. The simple reason is that we've started using font-skins instead of graphic skins. This has made the application size smaller and made it possible to support more screen sizes. We are always working on adding new skins, so we would like to hear what skin you were using before? Maybe we will be able to make something similar.
thank you for the wonderful update. For almost half a year I've been happily using your app as a bedside clock with no problems whatsoever, and now I'm gonna have to look for alternatives. My color settings are gone (because you have changed skins format apparently), it no longer speaks time when I tap the screen, and now I have absolutely useless alarm icon (I am actually happy with android's built-in alarm) which is glowing bright-white in the center of the screen and its color cannot be changed no matter what I do.
Seriously, if these are supposed to be the improvements then I have missed something in this life. Galaxy S
Hi,
I also have some issues with the new skins. Before the update I had a skin mostly alike to the custom digital skin, but with a font like the default weather skin albeit more boldface and in blue.
I liked that a lot, as the blue color was decent (white or green is too aggressive for a night clock in my opinion).
Sadly with the current digital font the clock ist not readable by day on my desire as the digits are too slim to stick through the display glare as is.
I'm not sure if there just was another skin or if there was font customization before the update - please bring it back, whatever it was, else I will have to look for a replacement :(
@aten
I'm sorry that you don't like the update.
You can set the color of the Custom Digital skin in the "Behaviour and layout" preferences (if you are using day- and nighttime profiles then either the "Daytime" or "Nighttime" preferences) and then choose "Layout" and "Skin preferences". On that preference screen you can also change the amount of glow and whether to show the alarm icon.
In the "Behaviour and layout" preferences you can enable the "Speak time on long touch" preference if you want it to do so.
If this does not solve your problems please explain them further.
@Peter
We are working on a skin which will have a sans serif font like the old blue one you mention. It will be released soon.
@Anders Kalør
well, I've installed the follow up update which lets me to hide that "Alarm" icon. Thank you for that. Time speak came back as well, after the new app update and consecutive phone restart. Looks like I might stick with our clock after all. Apologies for my previous emotional post.
One of the features I really enjoyed with this application was the custom snooze duration. Unfortunately, that seems to be broken with this update. I had an existing alarm with a 2-minute snooze that went back to 10 minutes. I removed the alarm and added a new one, but it's still a 10 minute snooze even though the alarm settings page indicates otherwise. This capability wasn't mentioned as a PowerPack-only feature, but maybe it is? Or is it just a bug?
Thanks in advance for your feedback and thanks for an otherwise great application.
Please bring back the old skins. I used to use the blue LED-like skin, which looked a bit like an 80s alarm clock, and I found it much nicer than the newer font. I'd hate to have to uninstall this app and look for another one on the market...
@TWKnigt: On some devices the snooze does not work properly. This will be fixed in the next update and it does not require the Powerpack.
@Pascal: We're working on improving the digital skin to make it look more like the old. The font will be improved in the next update.
I downloaded the app for my Motorola Xoom and the time will not show on the screen. i tried different settings but it's just a black screen. Other items do show like day of the week, etc. Hmmmmm.
@William
I'm are sorry about the problem but an update with a fix has just been made available on the Android Market.
Hi!
On my Galaxy Tab the application crashed during start. Perhaps I'm using a setting that is not catched, but I can't change settings without having the clock running ;-) ... Do you have any hints for me?
Thanks for your help!
Update:
Complete reinstalling and a new install don't solve the problem. The crash report shows a null pointer exception in "...kaloerclock.skins.AnalogClockView.onDraw(Unknown Source)" coming from "android.view.View.draw(View.java:6740)". Perhaps this will help. I love your application and I like to use it again.
Regards!
@Irata
A new update is available which hopefully fixes the problem. Thank you for the report.
Hi.
Have been doing some trouble finding also:
1. I use an external bluletooth speaker, and have noticed that when the alarm goes off, the sound is emmited from the internal speaker, and a second later from the external bluetooth speaker. Is it possible to have a selector that if a device is connected, you can choose to output to internal or external?
2. Also noticed that on the alarm dismiss / snooze buttons, the text is the default system size, and so appears very small compared to the button.
3. On your first release of 3.0, the custom digital skin had the day of the week in full in the centre - now it has all the days of the week, with today highlighted - I prefered the centred day - could we have that as an option?
4. On the sleep times - could it be set to remember the settings last used - ie playlist, time, fade option....
Otherwise - looking great! And no, I am not looking for a replacement!
Zygmunt
Thanks for the new LED-like font. It looks much better. Now that everything is a font and not an image, would it be possible to have a setting to adjust the font size?
Incidentally, on this scheme I can't seem to get the text glow to work, even if I set it to 100. Is that a known problem?
@Zygmunt
1) This may not be possible, but we will see what we can do.
2) We are working on improving the alarm screen. This will be improved as well.
3) This will hopefully be possible in the next update.
4) This will be added in the next update.
@Pascal
I'm glad you like the new font. We are considering adding the possibility to change the text size.
The glow should work. It may be more visible if you set a value between 5 and 10.
@Mads:
Thanks a lot! Now it works!
Got this great app, plus the power pack last night, and it worked great for me this morning - just what I was after! However, there seems to be a bug on my HTC Desire (InsertCoin ROM) in that even though I've obviously now come out of the app and am in normal use, incoming calls & notifications are still muted (as I'd set it up to be overnight - and as I work shifts - also during the day when running the app). I've unticked the option to 'Mute Volume' for calls and notifications to see if it would re-enable sounds but it didn't, the volume sliders for both were still all the way over to the left (muted) and I had to move them back to their normal position to get sound for incoming calls/notifications working again. It does this everytime I re-enable the mute in Kaloer Clock again. Any suggestions? Thx
In ref to my post above...it's sorted now....it screwed up my sound settings and put the phone into mute mode somehow. Anyway, I've got it all sorted now - as I said - GREAT app ;-)
Excellent app, I like the new menu layouts as well. Just one thing I'd like to see in the future is an option to have the alarm screen as the default rather than the clock.
The day this happens I'll buy the powerpack.
Thanks once again, Mark.
I like the update but I have now some issues with the battery. After update the android battery monitor shows the clock to drain 65% of battery power. Before the update I never seen the clock in the battery monitor applications list. I'm a paying user, and I don't want to uninstall it just after have paid. I think this is, afaIk the best clock like app around.
Hi Team,
This is a great app. I have benchmarked many times all other clocks on Android and iPhone. This is one of the best.
2 problems though with my Nexus S:
1. same as "aten", the alarm icon stays white regardless of the overall skin color.
2. the backglight of the physical buttons is always on, regardless of the preference setting
I would love if you could fix both,
Cheers,
:P
@PHT049
1) The alarm icon does only change when the alarm is enabled - otherwise the alarm icon is grey.
2) Due to bugs on some devices, the physical button light cannot be disabled on all devices. This is very difficult to fix as it is not a bug in the application.
@Anders:
1. Understand. Could you consider taking the skin color and either making a "crossed" icon, or the same icon but with the skin color darkened by 50%? For my case, the overall skin is dark red, so the icon in grey shines on its own.
@PHT049
Yes, we have added that change to the todo-list so it will probably be released soon.
Hi, I use separate buttons option for snooze / dismiss but the fonts on these buttons are far too small in landscape mode.
Any chance to put color coded buttons (e.g. green for snooze and red for dismiss) and larger fonts on future releases?
Thanks.
I've just bought the Galaxy S2 and everything was fine after rooting and installing Lite'ning custom rom...untill I installed Kaloer Clock! It somehow broke the notification bar and gave a FC on boot up;
"The application Status Bar (process com.android.systemui) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
I had to flash Villain 1.1 ROM to get it all working again - uninstalling Kaloer or reflashing Litening didn't fix it....but then when I started to put all my usual apps back on...the same thing happened with that rom too....just as I'd set up Kaloer and was exiting the app! Luckily this time I'd got CWMod working and had done a backup!
Can you look at what might be causing Kaloer to break the status bar, I'll miss not having it on my Galaxy S2 for sure!
@Willie_Heckerslyke
I'm sorry about the problems Kaloer Clock has caused. However, according to a Google search, you are not the only Galaxy S2 owner with that particular problem - it seems to be an issue with the phone and not Kaloer Clock, so it is very difficult for us to fix.
Ok..thanks Anders (though I've Googled it too and aint found anything personally...)
I got everything as I wanted it, then did a nandroid backup and put Kaloer Clock back on, but this time I never ticked the 'return volume to normal' setting as I briefly saw a 'mute' icon in the status bar before it Force Closed last time - even though it was set to normal volume at the time of setting up KC. It also did this with my previous HTC Desire too - but never crashed the phone - and I was able to put it right via the Sounds menu, so as you say, it's a Samsung/Galaxy S2 bug that causes the FC!!
It just means that for now, I have to remember to take it off mute manually in the morning after removing from the charger dock, though knowing my awful memory, I'm bound to forget a few times - that's why it was a handy setting to have - but hey - at least I've got Kaloer clock back :-)
I had the app on my droid x and loved it, i have since gotten a droid charge and everything is the saem, except the weather does not seem to work. i get an error that "No network or GPS position available"
i have turned on and enabled all location based settings, and it still cannot find me.
i miss seeing the falling rain
Any update?
@Nick
Sorry for the late answer. We are sorry about the problem and we will take a look at it. In the meantime you may want to set at static location instead.
Thanks for quickly addressing issues raised and pushing out updates as needed.
Mads,
When I try to sey a static location it still does not work, either using a city/state, or zip code
Nick,
Strange. Can you please contact us using the contact form, and we will investigate the problem.
Thank you.
I ended up selecting the various GPS services, by process of elimination, seems to work now using only the google location service turned on
Hi Team,
Again, thanks for the great work.
One addition I may suggest, that would be important: in order to change an alarm time, we need to go first the alarm details, next on the time set popup, this is one screen too many.
Would that be possible to set the time direct in the details screen vs. the next one?
Best,
PHT049
Hi,
great app!
I'm using Kaloer Clock for more than a year on my phone HTC Legend. Works fine, I like it.
Now I've got a tablet: Motorola Xoom (US device with Android 3.1)
The update to 3.0 and the powerpack are graet for this device. I use esp. the day and night modes.
Unfortunately the scheduled change between the modes does not work. At 8:00 the Clock should change to daylightmode. But nothing happens, if I don't touch the Clock app. I've to restart it to get the day mode. Please check.
Hello, what should I do with this nice app to make it speak a time at a long tap on my Desire HD? I have put it on in settings, but it has not take any effect :( Neither 2.2.6.5 ver. nor 3.1 ver. (just updated from market) doesnt' speak a time.
I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the application will not pick up my playlists and the alarm widget does not show the time at which the alarm will go off.
Great application regardless, just what I wanted.
Your clock app is everything that I was looking for but could never find in the hundreds of apps like this on the market. Thank you for all your hard work on this great app!
My one suggestion/request:
I like the full screen feature that is available, but was wondering if it would be possible to have a setting to make the app go into full screen mode automatically, rather than having to tap on the screen first?
Thanks.
I downloaded the clock and am using it on my Samsung Galaxy S. Works fine with the standard alarm tone. However, snooze remains at 10 minutes, though I set it at 7 minutes. I deleted the alarm and set it again - same problem. The settings of the snooze time in settings does not get to be followed by the actual alarm. How to resolve? Thanks for your help
That should be Samsung Galaxy S II.
Hi, I like the app, but I can't get it to fade in when an alarm is starting. That's why I bought it. I was hoping to get an app that could wake me up softly, fading in to the alarm of choise. Is this possible or have I missed something?
Make this happen and it's great!
I used to be really satisfied with the alarm application, however, since last update (or some a bit earlier) it doesn't go off at the time it should. It can easily be 15 minutes late. Usually, it goes immediately if I push the button on top of my phone after the alarm time has expired.
I have a HTC legend (android 2.2).
Please fix this bug, because I really liked this alarm, and I cannot use it with this bug.
Droid X. The alarm rings but I do not get the screen to make it stop or snooze; the only way I can turn off the alarm is to force-stop the app.
Same as Mark (posted 8/29 @ 1542)
Although i have a Droid Charge. Same thing happens since the last two updates, alarm goes off at the correct time, but i no longer get the two buttons, unless i pull down the menu, or force close.
Please fix ASAP since this had been by far the best alarm app on the market
LOL, of course it worked fine this morning!!!!
I really like this app, but I am trying to silence the alarm. I just want it to vibrate me awake, but I don't want to silence my sms or the calls. Any other alarms I have tried, have an option where you choose your alarm tone, one option is none or silence.. Is it possible on this app?? or am I just not seeing it?
Thanks for this app, really like it.
Have an HTC Legend but have problem in that the snooze interval does not seem to work properly. For eg set snooze for 15 minutes but alarm does not go off in 15 minutes. Sometimes 20 minutes, sometimes longer.
Great app. Best Alarm clock I've used yet. Could use two things.
1. Please add max snooze count. I need to limit myself or I'll snooze forever.
2. Please add tasker support to enable/disable alarms.
This has become unstable since last update. Alarm doesn't go off if screen is locked. Now the screen. Is blank and I can't pull up the menu. Tried to install and reinstall and still doesn't work . This has been my Favorite clock app.and has been all I have used. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 for T-mobile .
